Programmes to observe National Mourning Day in Khulna

KHULNA, Aug 11, 2021 (BSS) – All preparations have been completed to observe the National Mourning Day and the 46th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a befitting manner here on August 15.

Various government, semi-government, autonomous bodies, socio-cultural and voluntary organisations and educational institutions have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day in the city and district maintaining social distance during the coronavirus pandemic.

Programmes of the day include hoisting the National flag half-mast in all buildings, placing floral wreaths at the sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Khulna Betar premises, discussion, milad and doa mahfil, food distribution among destitute, distribution of leaflets, posters and screening documentary on life and works of Bangabandhu.

On the occasion prizes will be distributed among the winners of the competition arranged by the district administration on essay wiring, art, and poem recitation.

Special munajat will be offered after Zuhr prayer at mosques while prayers will be held at temples, churches and pagodas on the day.

Donation cheques will be distributed among cancer, liver cirrhosis and kidney patients at Gallyamari Sheikh Russel Child training and rehabilitation center.

Department of Social Welfare, Directorate of Women Affairs, Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Khulna District Information Office, Islamic Foundation, Khulna Betar, Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) and other organisations will observe separate programmes on the Mourning Day.

Art exhibition, discussion meeting and doa mehfil will be held at Khulna Press Club marking the day maintaining health guidelines.

Meanwhile, Khulna city and district units of Awami League (AL) and its front organisations have also taken various programmes marking the National Mourning Day.

The programmes include hoisting of the national flag half-mast, party flag and black flag atop party offices, wearing of black badge, placing wreaths at the sculpture of Bangabandhu, mourning rally, playing of the historical speech on March 7, 1971 of Bangabandhu, discussion meeting, special prayer at mosques, temples, churches in the city for salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his family members.

Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and Khulna District Police administrations have taken adequate measures to maintain law and order situation on the day.
