72nd birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal observed in Rangpur
RANGPUR, Aug 5, 2021 (BSS) - The 72nd birth anniversary of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed today here in a befitting manner.
Like last year, the birth anniversary of Kamal was observed with limited scale programmes strictly abiding by the health directives in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic this year in the metropolis.
The divisional and district administrations, Rangpur Range and Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP), Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies paid rich tributes to Kamal by placing wreaths at his portrait followed by brief discussions and doa mahfils.
In the morning, Divisional Commissioner Abdul Wahab Bhuiyan, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Rangpur Range Police Debdas Bhattacharya, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Deputy Commissioner Asib Ahsan and Superintendent of Police Biplob Kumar Sarker placed wreaths at the temporary portrait of Sheikh Kamal at Town Hall premises in the city paying rich tribute to him.
Later, freedom fighters, leaders of the district and city units of AL and its associate bodies, public representatives, sociocultural and professional organisations paid rich tribute to Sheikh Kamal by placing wreaths there till this noon.
Earlier, leaders of the district and city units of AL paid rich tributes to Kamal by placing wreaths at his portrait and arranged the main discussion and doa mahfil at District Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center in the city.
Deputy Commissioner Asib Ahsan, General Secretary of district AL Advocate Rezaul Karim Razu, President of city AL Shafiur Rahman Shafi, its General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal addressed the main and other discussions in the city.
In the main doa mahfil, the participants sought divine blessings for eternal peace of the departed soul of Sheikh Kamal, one of the prominent organizers of the War of Liberation, freedom fighter and sports and cultural personality.
Sheikh Kamal was born at Tungipara village under the then Gopalganj subdivision on August 5 in 1949.
He embraced martyrdom on August 15, 1975 at the age of 26, along with Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of their other family members.
