Rangpur division records 33.90pc Covid-19 positivity rate

RANGPUR, Aug 1, 2021 (BSS) – Rangpur division recorded 33.90 percent Covid-19 positivity rate as 120 fresh cases were reported after testing 354 newly collected samples of all eight districts in the division today.

“The Covid-19 positivity rate is showing a rising trend after remaining mostly steady below the 30 percent mark in recent weeks,” Focal Person of Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui said.

Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 30.31 percent on Saturday, 26.36 percent on Friday, 26.87 percent on Thursday, 28.63 percent on Wednesday, 28.02 percent on Tuesday and 26.92 percent on Monday last in the division.  

Among the 120 new patients, 72 were reported positive after diagnosing 166 newly collected samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city at the highest ever daily positivity rate of 43.37 percent today.

“The 72 new patients include 54 from Rangpur, five from Kurigram, nine from Gaibandha and four from Lalmonirhat districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS tonight.

On the other hand, 48 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur at the daily positivity rate of 25.53 percent today.

“The 48 new Covid-19 infected patients include 39 from Dinajpur, six from Thakurgaon and three from Nilphamari districts,” said Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said the number of Covid-19 patients climbed to 44,972 as 120 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

The district-wise break up of 44,972 infected patients stands at 10,015 in Rangpur, 2,756 in Panchagarh, 3,620 in Nilphamari, 2,258 in Lalmonirhat, 3,567 in Kurigram, 6,145 in Thakurgaon, 12,752 in Dinajpur and 3,860 in Gaibandha of the division.
