CHATTOGRAM, July 31, 2021 (BSS) - Chattogram City unit of Awami League (AL) has chalked out month-long programmes to observe the National Mourning Day and the 46th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman following health safety guidelines.
The decision was taken at a meeting of City AL chaired by its general secretary and former city mayor AJM Nasir Uddin at the party office at Darul Fazal Market on Friday night.
The programmes include hoisting of the national flag, party flag and black flag half-mast atop all party offices, wearing of black badge, placing wreath at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, mourning rally, playing of the historical speech on March 7, 1971 of Bangabandhu, recitation of the holy Quran, offering special prayers at mosques, temples, churches and other places of worships in the city for salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his family members on August 15.
Speaking on the occasion, AJM Nasir Uddin said that on August 5, marking the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Shaheed Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Bangabandhu, floral wreaths will be placed at his portrait on the premises of Darul Fazal Market party office.
To observe the 91th birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, floral wreaths will be placed at her portrait at Darul Fazal Market party office at 9:00am on August 8.
On August 15, marking the martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day, AL leaders and workers will pay tributes to the Father of the Nation by placing floral wreaths at his portrait at the party office.
Homage will also be paid to other family members of Bangabandhu.
Special dua and prayers will be arranged at all mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of worship for salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his family members.
On August 15, a discussion will be held on the occasion of the National Mourning Day at 3:30pm.
A discussion meeting will also be held on August 17 marking the nationwide series bomb blast in 2005, commemoration meeting will be held on August 21 marking the grisly grenade attack on Sheikh Hasina that killed 24 AL leaders including AL woman leader Ivy Rahman in 2004.
Organizing Secretary of City AL Noman Al Mahmud, Publicity and Publication Secretary Shafiqul Islam Farooq, Information and Research Secretary Chandan Dhar, Forest and Environment Secretary Mashiur Rahman Chowdhury, Relief and Social Welfare secretary Haji Mohammad were present at the meeting, among others.
