Law enforcement agencies urge to ensure peaceful celebration of Durga Puja

KHULNA, SEPT 11, 2022 (BSS) – Law enforcement agencies have been asked to ensure tight security measures with the cooperation of local volunteers to smooth celebration of the Durga Puja, biggest religious festival of the Hundu community.

“Prevention is necessary before occurring any untoward incident,” speakers at the monthly law and order meeting held at the deputy commissioner’s office here today.

Chaired by Khulna deputy commissioner (DC) Md Moniruzzaman Talukder, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Administrator of Khulna Zila Parishad Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid, Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Mahbub Hasaan, Civil Surgeon Dr Sujat Ahmed, President of Khulna Bar Association advocate Md Saiful Islam and Khulna Press Club President S M Nazrul Islam.

DC Md Moniruzzaman Talukder requested the public representatives to work unitedly with the law enforcement agencies to make the 68 unions of the district free from drugs and crime.

Hilsha production has been increased across the country as special measures have been taken by the government, he said, adding that adequate mobile courts will be on operation in this regard.

He, however, said list preparing programme for the beneficiaries of food friendly programme are going on in the district asking to cancel the name of fake persons from the list.

Superintendent of Police Md Mahbub Hasan said people should inform the police before occurring any crime.

He requested the house owners to submit all information of their tenants including the copy of their NID cards to nearby Police Station.

The Durga Puja has now turned to a common festival to all, he said, adding that all government agencies already have been alerted regarding the celebration of Durga Puja.

 Civil Surgeon Dr Suja Ahmed said Covid-19 vaccine inoculation activities are ongoing between five to 11 years children. Over 46 thousand children have already been taken inoculation, he said, adding that a total of 9, 64,421 doses of booster inoculation have already been given in Khulna.

Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Pulak Kumar Mondal informed that cases have been filed with metropolitan and other police stations have decreased in August than of July.

Government officials, Freedom Fighters, Upazila Chairmen, UNOs, among others, attended the meeting.
