Selecting more challenged women as VGD beneficiaries stressed


 
RANGPUR, Sept 8, 2022 (BSS) - Public representatives at an interface meeting
today stressed selecting more disabled women as beneficiaries of the
Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) for their development.
 
They expressed the view at the interface meeting on 'VGD affairs community
score card' organized by Rangdhanu District Protibondhi Adhikar Sangstha
(RDPAS), Rangpur at Damodarpur union Parishad hall room in Badarganj upazila
of the district.
 
Access Bangladesh Foundation and Commonwealth Foundation extended support in
arranging the event participated by the male and female Members and Secretary
of Kutubpur union parishad, civil society members, disabled people and local
elite.

Chairman of Damodarpur union parishad Sheikh Abu Bakar Siddique attended the
meeting as the chief guest with President of RDPAS Md. Nur Alam in the chair.
 
Secretary of Damodarpur union parishad Md. Atiar Rahman and founder of
Damodarpur Bangla School Md. Rashedul Islam were present as special guests.
 
General Secretary of RDPAS Md. Hasanur Rahman (Helal) presented the keynote
paper in the event moderated by its Community Mobilizer Md. Atiar Rahman.

President of RDPAS Nur Alam delivered a welcome speech narrating the
statistics and social status of the disabled population and the negligible
number of disabled women as VGD beneficiaries in the union.
 
The speakers proposed involving representatives of the population with
various challenges in the selection process of VGD beneficiaries to bring
more women with disabilities under the VGD programme.

The chief guest expressed his commitment to involving representatives of the
physically challenged people in the process of selecting VGD beneficiaries
and implementing more development activities for the physically challenged
population.
 
"Every disabled person of Damodarpur union will be brought under the
government's massive social safety net programmes. They will also get the
necessary training for engagement with income generating activities," he
added.
