10 marginalized families get house-building loan in Rajshahi


 
RAJSHAHI, Sept 8, 2022 (BSS)- Each of ten marginalized and less-incoming
families was given Taka two lakh loan for the purpose of building their house
in the city.
 
On behalf of its Livelihoods Improvement of Urban Poor Communities Project
(LIUPCP), Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) disbursed the loan at its Nagar
Bhavan conference hall today.
 
RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton inaugurated the loan disbursement programme
saying that they set a target of disbursing loans worth Taka 3 crore under
the Community Housing Development Fund (CHDF) by this year-end.
 
He also said they have already extended financial support for building 305 in
the city under the CHDF project.
 
Mayor Liton said that proper housing for people living in urban poverty had
become a prerequisite to achieving sustainable development goals (SDG-11),
and ensuring planned urbanisation and continued economic progress of the
city.
 
Liton focused on stronger collaboration between the government and non-
government organisations and involving public representatives and other
relevant stakeholders to promote plans for people living in urban poor areas.
 
It was said in the meeting that the city corporation had started implementing
the LIUPC project in cooperation with the United Nations Development
Programme in order to achieve long-term sustainable growth by eradicating
urban poverty of around 58,000 disadvantaged families and achieving
Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
 
The project has been designed to reach initially the unserved and underserved
urban population in the city and to promote livelihoods and living conditions
of 1.80 lakh poor people living in urban areas.
