RAJSHAHI, Sept 8, 2022 (BSS) - World Physiotherapy Day 2022 was observed here today as elsewhere across the country with an aim to reach healthcare services at the doorstep of people who are suffering from chronic pain.
Rajshahi Physiotherapy Professional Council organized a seminar at Rainy Park Hall room today. Physiotherapists, physicians and students attended the seminar.
They also held a discussion meeting in the CRP conference hall in observance of the day. The main theme of the day this year is 'Physiotherapy is the effective management of osteoarthritis'.
Associate Professor Dr Tariqul Islam Khan, Senior Physiotherapist Anwarul Islam and Orthopedics Consultant Dr Quamruzzaman from the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital and Principal of Rajshahi Prime Institute of Health Technology Dr Moinul Islam addressed the meeting as resource persons disseminating their expertise and knowledge.
Dr Tariqul Islam Khan said physiotherapists are helping to reduce the sufferings of the patients of various chronic diseases like arthritis, sports injury and bone decaying.
He added that time has come to increase the number of physiotherapists in health care services as they play a vital role in reducing the patients sufferings from cervical and lumbar spondylosis, disc prolepses, paralysis caused by stroke, facial nerve paralysis and cerebral palsy.
As the number of such patients is increasing, emphasis should be given to raise the number of physiotherapists to bring all the patients under need-based care.
Dr Tariqul Khan said around 10 percent people of the total population are disabled and half of them are physically challenged who require physiotherapy treatment.
