Prices of marine fishes decrease in Barguna

BARGUNA, Sept 7, 2022 (BSS) - The prices of all types of marine fishes in the wholesale market of the district have started to fall as fishermen are catching huge marine fishes including hilsa.

The wholesale fish traders of Patharghata fish landing center is the second largest in the country. The fish traders said that compared to last week, the price of hilsa per mound has decreased Taka 5000 to 7000 in the wholesale market in the district.

Last week the prices of 1 kg weight of hilsa fish was Taka 55 to 60 thousand per mound. Which is currently being sold Taka 40 to 45 thousand per mound. Jatka (small hilsa) was sold at Taka 15,000 to Taka 16,000 last week, which is currently selling at Taka 12,000 to Taka 13,000 per mound. The fish go to different parts of the country from the wholesale market in the district.

President of Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation Patharghata Ghat Artdar Association Jamaddar Miah said, due to the overcrowding of fish in the sea, it is expected that the import and export will increase by increasing the supply of fish.

Mannan Majhi, President of Barguna Fishermen's Association, said that fishermen have been catching more fish in their nets for the past few days. If this situation continues, they will be able to overcome the losses.

Jayant Kumar Apu, senior fisheries officer of the district fisheries department, said that due to recent floods in various districts, farmed fish are getting mixed in the river, as a result of which the fishermen are catching more fish in the river. Because of this, the price of river fish is a little lower.
