RAJSHAHI, July 27, 2021 (BSS) - Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) has launched a permanent booth for distributing facemasks among general people free of cost aiming at stemming Covid-19 spread.

RMP Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique opened the booth at Shaheb Bazar Zero Point today saying such types of booths will be initiated at all important points in the metropolis in phases.

Main goal of the venture is to ensure hundred percent usage of facemasks which are very much important for limiting the infection of the deadly virus.

RMP Deputy Commissioner Sazid Hossain and Additional Commissioner Towhidul Arif were present on the occasion.

Kalam Siddique said RMP has been doing various humanitarian and social responsible works side by side with protecting law and order in the city.

"Earlier, we have launched 'Police Covid-19 Oxygen Bank' aimed at ensuring oxygen among police and other patients suffering from Covid-19 free of cost," he added.

The venture had been initiated with 50 cylinders in the preliminary stage and its number increased to 100 within the next few days.
The RMP commissioner said there is scarcity of oxygen due to infrastructural obstacles in hospitals and many people need oxygen in their houses but they cannot afford it.

Instead of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, there is no central oxygen supply in other hospitals and clinics in the city, he said.

Taking all the issues into active consideration the RMP took the initiative, he added.

"We are supplying oxygen cylinders on an emergency basis to the doorstep of the patient suffering from breathing constraint voluntarily and free of cost if he or she can contact the RMP Control Room, Mobile Number 01320-063998," he added.

He also said a ten-member RMP team comprising inspector, sub-inspector, assistant sub-inspector and constables has been constituted. They were imparted training on use of oxygen cylinder, selection of cylinder speedometer and refill, he continued.
