
RANGPUR, May 01, 2022 (BSS) - The historic May Day- 2022 was observed here today amid festivities with a fresh pledge for ensuring rights, welfare and workplace security of the working people.
Rangpur Regional Labour Office, district administration and different organisations of workers, labourers, professionals, sociocultural, political and human rights organisations and NGOs observed the day through colorful programmes.
The programmes included hoisting of the national, organisational and red flags, releasing balloons, bringing out rallies and processions, forming human chains and discussions.
The Regional Labour Office jointly with district administration brought out a huge rally from the Deputy Commissioner's Office premises on the city streets in the city.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan formally inaugurated the celebrations by releasing balloons with a festoon and leading the rally as the chief guest.
Superintendent of Police Md. Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, Deputy Director of Regional Labour Office Md. Sadekuzzaman and officials of the administration and different government departments were present.
Besides, dozens of organisations of working people brought out colorful processions on the city streets chanting slogans in favour of working people.
Leaders of district and city units of District Motor Sramik Union, Jatiya Sramik League, Jatiya Rickshaw Van Sramik League, Jatiya Bidyut Sramik League, Samajtantrik Sramik Front, Motor Sramik Union and Sommilito Garments' Sramik Federation, Sommilito Garments' Sramik Federation, Electronic Sramik Union, Truck and Tank Lorry Sramik League, Karmojibi Nari, Electric Sramik Kallyan Samabaya Samity, Krishi-Farm Sramik Federation, Dokan Karmachari Union participated in the processions.
The district and city units of Awami League, its associate bodies, Communist Party of Bangladesh, JASOD, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, Workers' Party and trade organisations also observed the day.
Addressing separate discussions, the speakers put emphasis on maintaining good relations between owners and workers, reducing wage discriminations and increasing productivity everywhere to attain the sustainable development goals.
They lauded the huge contribution of working people both at home and abroad, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, to the national progress and stressed on taking more steps for ensuring their welfare to build a developed Bangladesh by 2041.
