217.18 tonnes VGF rice distributed in Rangpur’s 4 unions

RANGPUR, July 17, 2021 (BSS) – Distribution of 217.18 tonnes of rice completed among 21,718 poor families of four unions in Rangpur Sadar upazila under the special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme before the Eid-ul-Azha.

The rice, allocated by the government, was distributed among the selected card-holder families of Chandanpat, Saddyapuskorini, Kholeya and Haridebpur unions to assist them in celebrating the Eid-ul-Azha festivity in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Officials of the district administration said each of the selected card-holder beneficiary families received 10 kgs of VGF rice under the programme.

The process of VGF rice distribution continues in full swing and will be completed by July 20 next in all 77 unions and three municipalities before the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festivity across the district.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) ATM Akhteruzzaman said the government has allocated 4,229.15 tonnes of VGF rice for distribution among 4,22,915 distressed families of the district.  

“Each of the selected card-holder poor, jobless, distressed and needy families is getting 10 kgs of VGF rice under the special VGF programme under strict supervision and monitoring of the district administration,” he said.

Talking to BSS, Chairman Amenur Rahman of Chandanpat union in Rangpur Sadar upazila said he distributed 52.67 tonnes of VGF rice among 5,267 card holder families of all nine wards of his union today.

Chairman of Saddyapuskorini union in Rangpur Sadar upazila Alhaj Sohel Rana said he distributed 62.90 tonnes of special VGF rice among 6,290 poor and distressed families of his union on Thursday.

Sirajul Islam Lavlu, Chairman of Kholeya union in Rangpur Sadar upazila said he completed distribution of 42.80 tonnes of VGF rice among 4,280 card-holder families of his union yesterday.

Chairman of Haridebpur union parishad in Rangpur Sadar upazila Iqbal Hossain said he distributed 58.88 tonnes of VGF rice among 5,888 card-holder families of his union today.

Talking to BSS, beneficiaries Osheda Begum, Abdus Sattar, Safura Begum and Rashedul Islam of Chandanpat union expressed deep gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after getting 10 kgs of VGF rice each today before the Eid-ul-Azha festivity.
