Govt takes projects to boost hilsa production: Khaleque

  KHULNA, Sept 28, 2021(BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Mayor Talukder

Abdul Khaleque here today said government has taken projects to increase
hilsa production.

   ''Hilsa production will increase across the country abiding government
guidelines to protect hilsa," he said at a seminar titled 'Hilsa Resource
Development Management Project' held at the conference room of fish fries
development farm at Gallyamary in the city as the chief guest.

  Department of District Fisheries organised the seminar with deputy
commissioner and district magistrate Md Moniruzzaman Talukder in the chair.

   Director of Hilsa Resource Development Project Md Zia Haider Chowdhury
addressed the seminar as special guest while deputy director of the project
Md Mahbubur Rahman presented the keynote paper.

  Mahbubur Rahman in his key note paper said contribution of Hilsa in
country's GDP is over one percent and around 20 lakh people are now involved
in Hilsa netting, processing and marketing.

  The government has taken a plan to set up 134 Hilsa Resource Development
and Management project in country's 29 districts at a cost of Taka 247 crore,
he said.

   Among others, deputy director of fish inspection and quality control Md
Abdud Daian, former deputy director Profulla Kumar Sarkar and Fisheries
Officer Joydep Paul, addressed the event.
