RANGPUR, Sept 28, 2021 (BSS) - Implementation of the Right to
Information (RTI) Act has been effectively improving the quality of life and
living standard of people from all walks of life across the country.
"Common people now know their right to information. Besides urban
citizens, rural and marginalized people are applying for information and
getting those easily," said Divisional Commissioner Abdul Wahhab Bhuiyan.
He said this at a discussion followed by prize distribution and cultural
programmes arranged today by the divisional and district administrations at
Town Hall auditorium in the city as the chief guest.
The Information Commission and District Information Office extended
assistance in arranging the programmes in observance of the International Day
for Universal Access to Information 2021.

city Awami League President Shafiur Rahman Shafi, Sadar Upazila Chairman
Nasima Zaman Boby addressed the discussion presided over by Deputy
Commissioner Md Asib Ahsan.
Assistant Director of District Information Office Md Alamgir Hossain
presented a keynote essay on the RTI Act-2009 highlighting commitment and
steps taken by the government for its implementation at all levels to ensure
people's rights to information.
"Enactment of RTI Act- 2009 is one of the biggest successes of the
government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the law has been ensuring
the peoples' right to know in establishing transparency and accountability at
all levels," he said.
The speakers put special importance on stopping misleading information
from the social or mass media as common people have the right to know
objective, accurate and true information.
The chief guest said common people were reluctant to talk to the
government officials in the past. But, they are now talking to the officials
freely and asking for their necessary information.
"After easily getting and knowing the information, common people are
solving their problems and necessary tasks," he said.
In the cultural function, documentaries were screened on the Language
Movement and War of Liberation apart from the biographies of Father of the
Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
