Stocks break gaining streak

DHAKA, Dec 05, 2024 (BSS) - Stocks today witnessed a downward trend after showing three days of positive trend as shaky investors preferred to book profit on quick-gaining stocks.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, plummeted by 41.5 points and settled at 5,197 points as against 5,238 points in the previous trading session. Two other indices also edged lower after hitting a record high in the previous day with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, fell 15.96 points to finish at 1,911.92 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) shed 8.28 points to close at 1,163.97.

Meanwhile, market turnover further fell by 29.7 percent to Taka 3.4 billion as against Taka 4.8 billion in the previous session. On the sectoral front, Pharma (17.6 percent) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Textile (13.7 percent) and Bank (13.1 percent) sectors.

Most of the sectors displayed dismal returns, out of which Mutual Fund (-3.6 percent), Services (-2.3 percent) and IT (-2.2 percent) exerted the most correction, while only Jute (1.1 percent) exerted some gains on the bourse today. 

Out of the 397 issues traded, 42 advanced, 303 declined and 52 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on red terrain. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) were declined by 42.3 points and 64.0 points respectively.
