Farmers produce bumper jute yield

PANCHAGARH, Aug 3, 2021 (BSS) - Farmers are very happy over bumper production of jute in the district this season as they are now busy to dry jute after husking the fiber from the plant.  

Farmer Depen chandra of sabouspara village in Debiganj upazila said, “I cultivated jute on two bighas of land and got 16 mounds of the golden fiber”.

 “Per maund of jute is being sold at Taka 2800 to Taka 3000. I have profited 26,000 Taka after meeting all expenditure,” he said.

DAE office sources said about 8225 hectares of land had been brought under jute cultivation in the district with the production target of 19500 tonnes of jute.

Deputy Director of DAE Md. Mizanur Rahman told BSS that Jute cultivation is lucrative and less expensive. So the land of jute is increasing, he added.

He also said this year, the climate was favorable for jute cultivation and DAE has given quality seeds, fertilizers among the farmers free of cost.

 DAE has also given training to the farmers on modern methods for boosting production, the official continued.
