PM to see Padma Bridge construction progress on Oct 13

DHAKA, Oct 2, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit the Padma Bridge site on October 13 to see progress of the construction work and inaugurate the railway link, the permanent riverbank protection and four innovation projects.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader revealed the information to the reporters after a preparatory meeting at Banani Setu Kartripakkha Bhaban here this afternoon.

He said the time of the completion of the Padma Bridge construction will be known in the last week of the current month.

 

Quader, also the general secretary of Awami League, said 59 percent of the overall work of the Padma Bride project has already been completed while 70 percent of the main bridge has been finished.

He said, “We should show respect to our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her courageous lone decision which has made the bridge visible despite the World Bank’s credit withdrawal from the bridge project…Sheikh Hasina has proved that she is a brave daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”

Railways Minister Mohammad Mujibul Haque was present in the press briefing.

Earlier, the meeting discussed holding the two public rallies of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the day of her visit to the Padma Bridge.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Showkat Ali, MP, Nure Alam Chowdhury Litan, MP, Bahauddin Nasim, MP, Shagufta Yeasmin Amily, MP, Naeem Razzak, MP, and Senior Secretary of the Bridge Department Anowarul Islam, and senior officials concerned.
