Govt takes steps to make entrance of buildings disabled-friendly: Menon

DHAKA, Sept 27, 2018 (BSS) – Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon today said the government has taken initiatives to make entrance of buildings, including educational institutions, disabled-friendly.

“Many people don’t maintain the building code while they construct buildings including educational institutions. They don’t give importance to ramps when they make plans. On the other hand, the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) is giving approval to construction of building without scrutiny,” he said told a discussion at the auditorium of SWID Bangladesh here.

Karmakorta- Karamachari Kallyan Foundation of Jatiya Partibandhi Foundation organized the discussion with its President Rezaul Kabir in the chair.

Menon said the persons with disabilities will get benefits from such initiatives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He said the disability does not create any bar on the way of development of a society. The different initiatives of the government for the persons with disability have changes the mentality of common people, he added.

The minister informed that the second survey to make sure the number of the disabled people will begin soon.

He said the first ever integrated pratibandhi krira complex is being established in Savar where the persons with disabilities can also avail the facility to play along with healthy one.

Mir Showkat Ali Badsha, MP, Jatiya Pratibandhi Foundation Managing Director Mahmuda Min Ara, SWID Bangladesh Secretary General Jowaherul Islam and SSDP Executive Director Habibur Rahman, among others, spoke in the discussion.

Mirpur Autism Resource Center Senior Psychologist Jahangir Alam gave the welcome speech.
