BSS gets NBR special honor for raising tax awareness

DHAKA, Dec 11, 2017 (BSS)-Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), the national news agency, has received special honor from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) in recognition of its important role in revenue mobilization through raising public awareness about tax.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith handed over a crest and a certificate to Managing Director and Chief Editor of BSS Abul Kalam Azad at a function held at the NBR’s Agargaon office here yesterday marking the ‘VAT Day 2017′.

Industries minister Amir Hossain Amu, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the finance ministry Abdur Razzak, NBR chairman Md Nojibur Rahman and president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin attended the programme.

“NBR has been playing an important role in building digital Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. It has taken up various innovative initiatives to create a revenue friendly culture at all levels of the state. As a national mass media, BSS has been disseminating information carefully about all the development activities of the government, including NBR,” said the BSS Chief Editor.

Terming the revenue as oxygen of development, he said, “We are now implementing the project like Padma Bridge with own finance because revenue earnings have been increased”.

“BSS will be with all the development activities and positive programmes of the government, including the revenue collection, in future,” said Azad.

Nojibur thanked all organizations that received honor from the NBR and urged them to work with the organisation as partner in mobilization of revenue in future.

Press Information Department (PID), Bangladesh Television, Department of Films and Publications (DFP), Directorate of Mass Communication and Economic Reporters’ Form (ERF) also received the honor for playing a role in creating public awareness about tax using different innovative programmes of the NBR.

Besides, 15 journalists received ‘NBR Best Reporter Award 2017’. Senior reporter of BSS SM Rashidul Islam received the best report award. He received the award from finance minister AMA Muhith at the programme.
