President urges all parties to participate in national polls

ITNA, Kishoreganj, Sept 25, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today urged all political parties to take part in the next national election for the betterment of the country and its people.

“I think political parties should take part in polls . . . They should go to people and participate in the election,” he told a mass reception at Rastropati Abdul Hamid Government College Playground here on the second day of his five-day visit to his home district of Kishoreganj.

Abdul Hamid reiterated his request to all political parties of the country to nominate good candidates for the next general election in the greater interest of the country.

Inhabitants of Itna hosted the reception as Abdul Hamid made his first visit here after taking oath of office as the country’s President for the second consecutive term on April 24.

Referring to the next Jatiya Sangsad election, the President called upon the voters to elect a person having good character, ideology and strict principle.

“Justify the candidates . . . and vote those who will help develop your locality,” he told the gathering, adding, “You have to choose the government which will help the country to proceed in the upcoming days.” “Evaluate the previous governments and then take the right decision to choose your leaders,” he added.

The President, in his nearly 30-minute speech, highlighted different development activities in the haor regions, including development of different infrastructures by the government.

President Hamid said, “Before 48 years, I was elected a lawmaker. And voters voted me eighth times for the Jatiya Sangsad. I have been the President twice. I’m really grateful to the people of this area.”

He said he has been working to ensure the overall development of the haor areas as well as for the country and its people.

The President asked the locals to increase the use of modern technology for producing of haor agriculture.

Hamid said he would ensure the development road urged all concerned to take the responsibility for maintaining roads.

About setting up an export processing zone (EPZ) in the haor area, the President put emphasis on developing communication with other parts of the country first.

He sought further cooperation of all to ensure more development in this haor area.

Engineer Rejwan Ahammad Taufiq, MP of Kishreganj -4 constituency, Afzal Hossain, MP of Kishoreganj-5 seat, Dilara Begum Asma, MP, Kishoreganj Zila Parishad Chairman Advocate Md. Zillur Rahman, Itna upazila chairman Chowdhury Quamrul Hasan, district Awami League president Md Quamrul Ahsan Shahjahan and general secretary of upazila unit of AL Advocate Khalilur Rahman, among others, also spoke on the occasion while freedom fighter M Ismail Hossain was in the chair.

Earlier, the President inaugurated works of nine development projects in Itna on his arrival in the upazila at 3:50 pm.
