BNP itself closed door of dialogue: Quader

DHAKA, Aug 29, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul
Quader today said the door of dialogue with BNP appeared closed as the party
itself blocked the way of such interactions, calling their proposal for talks
“mockery”.

“BNP’s demand of holding dialogue is a mockery,” he told a national
Mourning Day discussion at Engineers Institution (IEB) auditorium in the city
jointly organized by Dhaka City North and South units of AL.

Quader, also the road transport minister, the door for dialogue was
closed when BNP literally shut the door of their party chief Begum Khaleda
Zia’s residence down on the premier’s face as she went there to convey
sympathy after Arafat Rahman Koko’s death.

“If they really wanted the dialogue they would have welcomed her inside
the residence,” he said.

Mentioning that BNP rejected prime minister’s invitation to join a
function at the Ganabhaban in 2014, Quader said if they wanted dialogue they
then would have joined the event.

Speaking about using of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in the upcoming
election, the minister said, “We hail the plan of Election Commission (EC) of
using EVMs at voting centres of one-third constituencies as we earlier
demanded it”.

But if the EC thinks that it would not be logical to use EVM in the
upcoming election, they can scrap it, he added.

Welcoming the alliance of Juktafront and Gana Forum, Quader said, “We
have good wishes for the alliance, if it is meant for the participation in
the election”.

But if they create anarchy in the country in the name of alliance, the
countrymen will give befitting reply to them, the minister added.

There is nothing to establish Bangabandhu as he is already established in
the world as a great leader, Quader said about Bangabandhu, adding that a few
individuals may take stand against Bangabandhu, but the entire nation keep
him in their mind with respect and dignity.

President of Dhaka South City unit of AL Abul Hasnat presided over the
discussion addressed by AL Advisory Council Member Lt. Col. (Retd.) Muhammad
Faruq Khan, Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Organising Secretary
AKM Enamul Haque Shamim and General Secretaries of Dhaka North and South City
units of AL Md Sadek Khan and Shahe Alam Murad, among others.
