Man put on remand for derogatory post on facebook

RANGPUR, Nov 15, 2017 (BSS) – A court here today placed Titu Roy on four- day remand in connection with a case filed under ICT act over derogatory post on social networking site facebook.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Depangshu Kumar Sarker granted the remand following Investigation Officer of the case Babul Islam produced Titu before the court in the afternoon seeking 10-day remand.

“The case has been transferred to Rangpur DB police for investigation,” Officer-in-Charge of Rangpur DB police (north) Inspector Shariful Islam told BSS.

Earlier, Rangpur DB police with the assistance of Nilphamari police arrested Titu from Chirabhija Golna village under Jaldhaka upazila of Nilphamari district on Tuesday morning and took him to Rangpur, Islam added.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) ABM Zakir Hossain today said police arrested 28 persons last night in connection with two cases filed with Kotwali and Gangachara police stations over Friday’s clash at Thakurtari village.

“The number of arrested people in connection with the two cases rose to 152 so far,” Zakir added.

On November 10, a group of unidentified miscreants attacked Thakurtari village over a facebook post of Titu Roy that left one person dead and scores injured.

After the clash, a three-member probe committee was formed to investigate into the matter.

Head of the probe committee and Additional District Magistrate Abu Rafa Md Arif today said the committee is verifying all important information collected during the investigating.
