Early winter vegetables bring smiles on Netrakona farmer’s faces

NETRAKONA, Nov 12, 2017 (BSS) – Early winter vegetables have started arriving in different kitchen markets, Hats and Bazers of all the ten upazilas of the district.

Local farmers said different varieties of winter vegetables including cauliflower, cabbage, basil, tomato, gourd, bean, brinjal, radish and carrot are being sold in different kitchen markets.

District Agriculture Extension Department (DAED) officials said today cultivation of early winter vegetables is gaining popularity in the district as the vegetable growers has been getting more profits by cultivating vegetables for last few years.

When contacted, the Deputy Director of the DAED Netrakona, Bilash Chandra Paul said the better output and high demand of the early winter vegetables have brought smiles on the faces of the vegetable growers this year.

He said high demand and good market prices of the early winter vegetables have inspired many farmers of the district to cultivate those vegetables.

Talking to the BSS, over a dozen of farmers of the South Bishiura and Challisha villages in Netrakona Sader upazila said they have cultivated early varieties of cauliflower, cabbage and tomato in their farm and fellow lands in this winter season and got more profits after meeting the production costs.
