7 Jamaat leaders arrested in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Nov 11, 2017 (BSS) – Police in separate raids arrested seven local leaders of Jamaat-E-Islami Bangladesh from different places under Pirganj and Badarganj upazilas here in the early hours of today.

Pirganj Thana police arrested Ameer of Pirganj upazila unit of Jamaat Moulana Golam Mostafa, its Secretary Khairul Azam, former Secretary Moksed Ali and President of Choitrokol union Jamaat Golam Rasul.

The four arrested Jamaat leaders are members of Pirganj upazila unit of ‘Shura’ committee of the party.

“The arrested Jamaat leaders had been on the run for a longtime and a number of criminal cases are pending against them with Pirganj Thana for their alleged involvement with subversive activities,” said Rezaul Karim, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirganj Thana.

On the other hand, Badarganj Thana police arrested Gopalpur union unit Ameer of the party Joynal Abedin, its Secretary Ruhul Amin and Abdul Mannan (younger brother of Badarganj upazila unit Secretary of Jamaat Abdul Hannan).

“The three Jamaat leaders were arrested from different areas of Badarganj upazila today in connections with attacks conducted at village Thakurtari in the nearby area on Friday,” said OC Md Akhteruzzaman of Badarganj Thana.
