PM reiterates special support for Palestine people

DHAKA, April 3, 2017 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today reiterated that government and people of Bangladesh always have special place in their hearts for the Palestine people.

The Prime Minister said this when the Palestine delegation now in Dhaka to attend 136th IPU assembly, called on her at her Ganabhaban residence here this evening.

Ex Prime Minister (vice) of Palestine and head of the delegation Azzam N.M. Alahmad led the delegation. Other members of the delegation were ex minister Mrs. Intisarmm Alwazir, advisor Qais K. A. Khader and Palestine ambassador in Dhaka Yousef S. Ramadan.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, PM’s press secretary Insanul Karim said the Prime Minister appraised of current situation relating to the Palestine peace process.

The process might be more easier if entire Arab world come forward together to support the Palestine causes, the press secretary quoted as the Prime Minister was saying.

The Palestine head of delegation said Bangabandhu was a symbol of international leaders and as well as he was a leader of the Palestine people. Bangabandhu established the brotherhood relation between Bangladesh and Palestine, Alahmad said.

Extending the greetings of Palestine president Mahmood Abbas to the Prime Minister, the head of the delegation said relation of the two countries are historic. He expressed gratitude to Bangladesh government and people for their support to the Palestine people.

Sheikh Hasina said Bangabandhu always has given unflinching support to Palestine causes. She also recalled visit of late Palestine leader Yasser Arafat in 1997 saying she used to address Palestine leader as ‘chacha’
(uncle).

Alahmad said he is happy to see Bangladesh’s current development under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Current pace of development in Bangladesh is completely different than what I had seen before, he said.

PMO secretary Suriya Begum and PM’s military secretary Major Gen. Mia Mohammad Joynal Abedin were present.
