DHAKA, August 08, 2018 (BSS) – The government is going to purchase the historical ‘Rose Garden’ where from the country’s biggest political party, Bangladesh Awami League, started its journey.

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) today approved the proposal of purchasing the Rose Garden, which is now preserved as an archaeological site.

The approval was given at the CCGP meeting of the current fiscal year, held at cabinet division. Finance Minister AMA Muhith chaired the meeting.

“The government is purchasing the house from the owner as per the ‘Public Procurement Law’. The price of the house is about Taka 331.70 crore,” Mustafizur Rahman, additional secretary of Cabinet Division, told journalists after the meeting.

Though the country’s biggest political party was floated as Awami Muslim League at the historical Rose Garden in 1949, the word ‘Muslim’ was dropped at its third council in 1955.

Situated on KM Das Lane in Tikatuly of Old Dhaka, the Rose Garden was built in 1931 by Hrishikesh Das, a rich businessman.
