Go back to classrooms: DMP chief
DHAKA, August 04, 2018 (BSS) – Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman
Miah today urged all students, who are protesting on streets, to go back to classrooms.
“We have moral support to their demands, as students performed to maintain traffic
rules on streets,” he said this, while announcing Traffic Week at DMP Media Center in the
city.
The traffic week is scheduled to kick off from tomorrow (Sunday) across the country to
bring discipline in traffic management.
Thanking the students for their initiative to maintain and regulating traffic rules,
the DMP chief urged the protesters to return to classrooms and said now is the time to end
their movement as everyone is recognizing the rationale of their movement.
He warned student protesters that Detective Branch police had found evidence that
agitators had infiltrated the protest ranks and were working to instigate violence.
Asaduzzaman said that misleading and inflammatory posts were being shared on the social
media that were attempting to spark discord.
He reiterated that the government was working to implement the student protesters’
demands and urged the students to end their demonstrations and return home.
The DMP Commissioner said police have been doing their duties with sincerity and
peacefully despite attacks on police personnel during the ongoing student protest.
He said that certain groups are now out to divert the students’ movement to other
directions to realize their vested interests.
The DMP chief said intelligence report, social media posts and information from
different sources indicate the evil attempt.
He said police support the students’ movement, adding, “But we have realized that in
spite of various activities, including intelligence reports, on social media monitoring, a
group is pushing for a different kind of movement, provoking political activities to give
a political shape. It would not be allowed to continue.”
On July 29, two students were killed when a bus -Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan- ran over some
students on the Airport Road.
