BNP’s politics limited to its party office, press club: Hanif

DHAKA, June 18, 2021 (BSS) – Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif today said BNP’s politics is limited to its party office and press club.

“Though BNP talks about people, they didn’t reach people in the last one and a half years during the crisis period. BNP never stood by people in their dire need. They become isolated from people,” he said.

Hanif was addressing a memorial meeting on veteran AL leader and former minister Mohammed Nasim arranged by ‘95 Foundation Kazipur’ at the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) here.

He said Awami League always stands by people during their weal and woe and the nation’s transitional period.

About BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s allegation that the government is launching repression on BNP leaders and workers, he said Fakhrul’s allegation is completely false and baseless.

When BNP was in power, many senior leaders of AL were beaten up on streets and wounded critically, he said.

Now BNP is holding its different political programme and forming human chain every day at the JPC but the police didn’t obstruct them.

Hanif said BNP’s politics is now being run centering the illness of the party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

But they are not saying anything clearly about her treatment, he said.

Mirza Fakhrul’s comment seems he is the chairman of Khaleda Zia’s medical board, he said, adding that the physicians of Begum Zia didn’t say for single a time that she should be taken to any country for treatment of any particular ailment.

Though the physicians are not saying anything, Mirza Fakhrul is making different comments, he said.

“If it is not possible to treat anyone in our country, many go India, Bangkok or Singapore. But did they say where she wants to go? They didn’t. Actually, Khaleda’s treatment is not a major fact to them rather their staging drama and doing politics over her treatment have become their key purposes,” he said.

Chaired by ‘95 Foundation Kazipur’ President Abu Raihan, the memorial meeting was addressed, among others, by Nasim’s eldest son Engineer Tanvir Shakil Joy, MP and Awami Swechchhasebak League President Nirmal Ranjan Guha and General Secretary AKM Afzalur Rahman Babu.
