KUSHTIA, Oct 27, 2017 (BSS) – An alleged criminal was killed in a shootout between police and his accomplices in Joynabad area under Kumarkhali upazila of the district early today.
Police identified the slain accused as Anowar Hossain, 27, hailed from Nagor Shaota village of the upazila. He was wanted in a case filed for murdering an expatriate naming Rakibul.
A team of police first arrested Anowar yesterday noon from Badbazar area, Officer-in-Charge of Kumarkhali Thana Abdul Khalek said, adding according to Anowar confession, police later carried out an operation in Joynabad area to arrest his accomplices.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on
police, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gun fight between them. At a stage, Anowar was caught in the line of fire.
Later police found bullet hit Anowar falling on the ground and took him to Kushtia General Hospital where on duty doctor declared him dead.
Police recovered a foreign made pistol, two rounds of bullet and two sharpe weapons from the area.
