Covid-19 cases rapidly cross 20,500 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 15, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (Covid-19) cases has speedily crossed the 20,500 mark in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues rising hastily amid declining recovery rate in recent weeks.

Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases rose to 20,556 in the division as 148 more patients were reported positive after testing 481 samples at the infection rate of 30.77 percent on Monday.

“The infection rate crossed the 10 percent mark on March 24 last for the first time since December 26 last and continued rising again since April last,” Focal Person of Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui said.

Earlier, the infection rates were 29.02 percent on Sunday, 27.50 percent on Saturday, 27.60 percent on Friday, 23.98 percent on Friday, 26.04 percent on Thursday, 31.25 percent on Wednesday and 32.03 percent on Tuesday last in the division.

“The district-wise break-up of total 20,556 patients stands at 5,267 in Rangpur, 861 in Panchagarh, 1,630 in Nilphamari, 1,205 in Lalmonirhat, 1,350 in Kurigram, 2,049 in Thakurgaon, 6,367 in Dinajpur and 1,827 in Gaibandha,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,39,807 collected samples were tested till Monday, and of them, 20,556 were found Covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.70 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed patients reached 18,463 with recovery of 48 more infected patients on Monday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 89.82 percent.

“The average recovery rate of Covid-19 infected patients was 97.55 percent more than three months ago on March 9 last in the division where the same dropped by 7.73 percent to 89.82 percent during the last three months,” Dr Siddiqui added.

Among the total recovered patients, 4,803 of Rangpur, 819 of Panchagarh, 1,541 of Nilphamari, 1,075 of Lalmonirhat, 1,176 of Kurigram, 1,623 of Thakurgaon, 5,680 of Dinajpur and 1,746 of Gaibandha districts.

Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said the Covid-19 infection related death toll reached 439 as one more patient died in Kurigram on Monday in Rangpur division.

The district-wise break-up of the 439 fatalities now stands at 103 in Rangpur, 158 in Dinajpur, 55 in Thakurgaon, 38 in Nilphamari, 24 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 23 in Gaibandha and 18 in Lalmonirhat.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.14 percent,” Dr Islam said.

Among the 20,556 patients, 131 are remaining at isolation units, including 105 at general beds, 22 critical patients at ICU beds and four at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 18,463 patients and 389 deaths while 1,594 are remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine remained steady at 5,96,943 since April 26 last, and of them, 3,87,910 got the second dose of the jab till Monday in the division,” the health official added.
