DHAKA, June 14, 2021 (BSS) – Crediting the government efforts for agricultural mechanization, Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzaque today said the people of the country are enjoying the huge benefits of the mechanization of the sector.

“Due to increasing use of combined harvester and reaper machines during the Boro season this year, it has been possible to successfully harvest the paddy within the short time,” he said.

The minister was addressing a national workshop on ‘Agricultural Mechanization Project through Integrated Management’ at Krishibid Institute of Bangladesh (KIB) in the city’s Khamarbari area, said a press release.

Noting that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly for making the agriculture sector modern and profitable one, Razzaque said a TK 3,020 crore project has been taken to gear up the mechanization process.

Besides, 284 posts of agriculture engineers have been created at field level to accelerate mechanization of agriculture, he added.

Mentioning that the government is providing agricultural machineries to farmers with 50 percent to 70 percent subsidy based on region, which is rare instance across the world, the minister said initiative has been has been taken to provide loan to farmers so that they can procure the machineries after getting subsidy.

Emphasize has been put on imparting trainings on farmers so that they themselves can operate and repair the machineries, he said, adding that the government is working with an aim at producing agricultural machineries locally.

“We have already talked to many companies, including Yanmar and Tata, and requested them to set up factories in Bangladesh for producing agricultural machineries,” Razzaque said and urged the agricultural machinery producers, manufacturers and importers to come forward for manufacturing the agricultural products.

Senior Secretary of the Agriculture Ministry Md. Mesbahul Islam addressed the workshop as the special guest with Director General of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Md Asadullah in the chair.

Agricultural machinery producers, suppliers, farmers and around 500 agricultural officials from across the country took part in the workshop virtually.
