DHAKA, June 14, 2021 (BSS)- Posing a question to BNP’s Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir that how many times a human being can be born, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today sharply criticized BNP leaders for changing date of birth of Begum Khaleda Zia time and again by mentioning five or six dates of birth.

The minister stated this replying to a statement given by Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a view exchange meeting with journalists at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat in the capital.

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Murad Hasan was present at the meeting.

Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, said, “With due respect to Begum Khaleda Zia, I would like to say her date of birth was mentioned as September 5, 1946 in the form of matriculation examination. Another birth date was mentioned in the official documents when she took oath as the prime minister in 1991, and the date was August 19, 1947. In her passport, the birth date is August 5, 1946. And recently, she (Begum Zia) tested COVID-19 positive where the birth date was mentioned as May 8, 1946. How many dates of birth Begum Zia have?”

The minister said the date of birth of Begum Khaleda Zia as August 15 was not mentioned in any government files. But BNP cut cakes on August 15 marking the birth date of Begum Zia, he added.

In fact, he said they (BNP) cut cakes on August 15 to support the brutal killing on that day, to encourage the killers and to ridicule the tragic incident of August 15.

He said actually BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir are playing ducks and drakes over the date of birth of Begum Khaleda Zia. They called the press conference in the wake of court’s verdict and gave statements against the court, he added.

The minister said neither the government nor the home ministry has voluntarily said this. The court has sought relevant documents from the government to determine the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s “genuine” date of birth, he added.

The minister said it should not be appropriate to celebrate fake birthday through changing real date of birth. If a politician in Europe had such birth dates, he or she would be disqualified in politics and charged with criminal offence, he added.

The minister extended thanks to the High Court for seeking all documents in this regard from the home ministry.
