DNCC starts 10-day mosquito eradication drive

DHAKA, June 1, 2021 (BSS) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has started a 10-day simultaneous mosquito eradication drive in 54 wards of the city corporation aiming to prevent dengue and chikungunya.

DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam inaugurated the ten-day mosquito eradication campaign at Udayachal Park and playground of Mohammadpur Iqbal Road in the capital today.

During the drive, DOM-INNO, a construction company, was fined taka 3 lakh and an engineer of an under-construction building was sentenced to six months in jail by a mobile court for finding Aedes mosquito breeding grounds and larvae at their site.

Mayor Atiqul Islam said that the 10-day mosquito extermination campaign will be run from June 1 to June 12 (except Friday) to destroy mosquito breeding grounds.

He urged all city dwellers for all cooperation with DNCC sincerely to turn Dhaka into the capital of ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He hoped that Dhaka would become a more livable, healthy, vibrant and sophisticated city in the days to come.

In the inaugural ceremony, among others, lawmaker and former Health Minister AFM Ruhul Haque, DNCC Chief Executive Officer Md Selim Reza, noted public health expert Dr Benazir Ahmed, actor Ferdous Ahmed and drama personality Tanvin Sweety were present.
