DHAKA, May 7, 2021 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary
AFM Bahauddin Nasim today said May 7, the homecoming day of AL
President and incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2007 during
the state of emergency, is significant for making the country’s
democracy and non-communal and secular politics eternal.

He was addressing, as the chief guest, a clothes and food
distribution ceremony for 1000 low-income families at Rupnagar Model
School ground here.

On behalf of AL’s Dhaka City North unit, its ward number 7 unit
arranged the function.

Nasim said May 7 is a significant day to the Bangalee nation as
Sheikh Hasina returned home en route to London, after receiving
treatments in the United States, defying all obstacles and conspiracy.

The then military backed caretaker government barred Sheikh Hasina
from returning home and death threat was given to Bangabandhu’s
daughter as Fakharuddin and Moeen Uddin clique hatched deep-rooted
conspiracy in that period, he mentioned.

The AL joint general secretary said defying all conspiracy and
obstacles, Sheikh Hasina returned home on May 7 while thousands of
people greeted her at the airport.

So, this day 14 years back was significant for non-communal,
secular and democratic Bangladesh, he said.

Nasim said now the entire world reels under the coronavirus outbreak
and Bangladesh is not beyond it.

Life is the most important thing and at the same time living is
also important, he said, adding that the government as well as the AL
is standing by the people who live from hand to mouth.

“We all will have to stand by people. This is humanitarian works
and this is our politics,” he said.

Pointing to BNP, Nasim said few persons are doing evil politics by
spreading propaganda and rumors even during the pandemic-induced
crisis to misguide the people.

These persons do not communicate and take care of their own workers
during the crisis, then how they will stand by the people, he said.

President of AL’s Dhaka City North Ward Number 7 Kazi Abdul Hai
Harun chaired the function while Dhaka City North AL President Sheikh
Bazlur Rahman and General Secretary S M Mannan Kachi were present as
special guests.

Dhaka City North AL Organizing Secretaries Azizul Haque Rana and
Mizanur Rahman Mizan, Office Secretary William Praloy Samadder Bappi,
Swechchhasebak League Senior Vice-President Gazi Mejbaul Hossain
Sachchu and its Joint General Secretary Mobashwer Chowdhury were also
present at the function under the arrangement of Dhaka North City
Corporation’s ward number 7 councillor Tafajjal Hossain Tenu.
