Tagore’s 160th birth anniversary to be observed digitally

DHAKA, May 7, 2021 (BSS) – In the wake of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the nation will digitally celebrate the 160th birth anniversary of Biswakabi Rabindranath Tagore, who reshaped Bengali literature and music as well as arts of Indian subcontinent with contextual modernism.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.

Due to the coronavirus situation, there is no official event on the occasion of the poet’s birthday in the country.

However, marking the birth anniversary of Rabindranath, various virtual programmes will be aired on Bangladesh Television, various private television and radio channels.

Chayanat will organise a programmme titled ‘Dhar Nirvar Gaan’ this year.

The show will be aired tomorrow at 9pm on Chayanat’s Facebook group and YouTube channel.

On the 25th of Baishakh in 1268 Bengali year, Rabindranath, the fountainhead of Bengali wisdom, was born at Jorasanko in Kolkata.
