None would be spared for illegal drugs trading: Home Secretary

CHATTOGRAM, July 21, 2018 (BSS)- Home Secretary Farid Ahmed Chowdhury today said measures are being continued against illegal drugs business and the government has not been sparing anyone to this end.

“We are not sparing anyone as law is equal to all,” he said while exchanging views with the officials of district administration, jail authority, fire service authority, narcotics control department and passport department at local circuit house.

“Most of the Yaba is coming from Myanmar. We have talked to the Burmese authorities, but they are yet to do anything,” Farid said.

He said neighboring India has closed down its Phensidyl factories and so the Phensidyl trading has reduced significantly.

The home secretary said they had met the Myanmar authorities in 2011 as Myanmar was the only one source from where the pills were coming. “Both sides saw the rising invasion of yaba and agreed to fight it together but they did not cooperate with us till now to stop this,” he said.

He said Department of Narcotics Control sent a list of 37 yaba factories inside Myanmar to the authorities concerned of that country and urged them to take action but they did not do anything to stop Yaba trading.

Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Ilias Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Amena Begum, director of fire service and civil defense Major AKM Shakil Nowaj, Deputy-Director General of Jail authority Partho Gopal Bonik and Superintendent Nur-e-Alam Mina, additional director of Narcotics Control Department Mujibur Rahman Patwary and deputy director of Passport department Jakir Hossain Noman, among others, also addressed the function.
