Boro cultivation going on in full swing in Netrakona haor areas

NETRAKONA, April 19, 2021 (BSS) – Cultivation of high yielding and hybrid varieties of Boro paddy is going on in full swing in the Haor areas of the district during the current season.

The Boro cultivators are expediting the Boro paddy harvesting process through using combined paddy harvesting machines, which were distributed to them by the government at subsidized prices, for protecting the Boro paddy lands from flash flood and other natural calamities.

District administration and Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Netrakona are closely monitoring the Boro harvesting in the haor areas, which is popularly known as paddy-rich area of the country.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Netrakona Kazi Mohammad Abdur Rahman accompanied by deputy director of DAE Netrakona Habibur Rahman and executive engineer of water development board Netrakona M L Saikat visited the haor areas of Khaliajury and Modan upazilas under the district today to see the progress of ripen Boro paddy harvesting network there.

The DC urged the farmers and laborers to carry out the paddy harvesting work abiding by the health safety guidelines of the government, which includes wearing masks and using sanitizers to contain transmission of coronavirus.

After visiting the haor areas, the DC informed the local journalists that a total of 1,84,983 hectares of land were brought under Boro paddy cultivation in the district. Of the total lands, 40,965 hectares of land of the haor areas under six upazilas of the district were brought under high yielding and hybrid varieties of Boro paddy.

“Meanwhile, 70 percent Boro paddy of the haor areas have already been harvested by the farmers through utilizing combined paddy harvesting machines” the DC said, adding the rest of the ripen Boro paddy are expected to be harvested within the next week.
