DHAKA, April 19, 2021 (BSS) – Awami League Joint General Secretary
and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said
that the activities of arrested Hefazat leader Mamunul Haque are
threat to the state, society and religion as well.

“The recent activities of Mamunul Haque and the way he led the
mayhem of Hefazat in 2013 are threat to the country, society and the
Islam as well,” he told newsmen at his official residence in the city
maintaining social distance.

Hasan said Mamunul Haque even mocked with the Prophet as he showed
how the Prophet used to move his leap. “Who gave him the right to do
this? If anyone else had done it, then what Mamunul Haque and his
followers would have done to him?” he posed questions.

Hasan said it was clear that he (Maulana Shafi) was pushed to death
through torture. And everyone witnessed that the room of Maulana
Shafi, the founder of Hathazari Madrasha, was vandalized during his
illness, his ambulance was forcibly stopped for about one hour on the
way to hospital and oxygen tube was opened, he added.

Islam, he said, is not leased out to some ambitious religious leaders.

Replying to a query over the comment of BNP leader Mirza Abbas, the
minister said he (Abbas) told the truth on online meeting. But, later,
he tried to blame the media for that statement after facing criticism
from his party, he added.

“I would like to extend my thanks to Mirza Abbas to tell the truth
and hope that he will tell the truth in future also,” Hasan said.

Replying to another query about a video which was viral in different
media including social media, the minister said, “I would like to give
thanks to law enforcement agencies for their activeness during the
lockdown. But, they should keep in mind that none would become
harassment while discharging their (law enforcers) duty.”

He said doctors, journalists, law enforcers and other health workers
are the front fighters in combating COVID-19 situation. Even many
leaders of his party (Awami League) died as they stand beside the
common people during the pandemic, he added.
