CHATTOGRAM, April 19, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases reached 47,227 in Chattogram district where the infection rate continues rising hurriedly again in recent weeks.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases speedily raised to 47,227 as 293 more persons were reported Covid-19 positive after testing 1138 samples with the daily infection rate of 25.74 percent on Sunday in the district.

“The infection rate is showing a quickly rising trend again and recovery rate declining continuously in the district in recent weeks,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram, told BSS today.

The health expert of Chattogram urged city dwellers again and again to strictly follow health rules and use masks due to continuous increasing corona infections here.

Among the newly detected patients, 249 are from Chattogram city and 44 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.

The infection toll now stands at 47,227 and with the five deaths on Sunday, the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths in Chattogram reached 435, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, said.

Among the reported fatalities, 343 were the residents of the port city and the rest 121 were from different upazilas of the district.

Civil surgeon told BSS that among the total infected persons, 37,925 are the residents of the port city and the rest 9302 are residents of different upazilas of the district.

“The number of cured patients from the lethal virus infection has reached 36,383 in the Chattogram district with the recovery of 121 more patients on Monday,” Dr Rabbi said, adding that the percentage of recovery rate stands at 77.04.

A total of 1398 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, the health official mentioned.
