63 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 9, 2021 (BSS) – Sixty-three more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues showing a rapidly rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said the 63 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division today at the daily infection rate of 16.76 percent.

Among the 63 new patients diagnosed today, 30 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 30 new patients include 15 from Rangpur, six each from Gaibandha and Lalmonirhat and three from Kurigram districts,” Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, 33 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 33 new patients include 27 from Dinajpur, three from Nilphamari and two from Panchagarh and one from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 6:55 pm.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 16,795 as 63 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

The district-wise break up of total 16,795 patients stands at 4,284 in Rangpur, 814 in Panchagarh, 1,447 in Nilphamari, 1,002 in Lalmonirhat, 1,062 in Kurigram, 1,581 in Thakurgaon, 5,024 in Dinajpur and 1,581 in Gaibandha of the division.
