March 25 was beginning of most heinous genocide: Murad

DHAKA, March 25, 2021 (BSS) – State Minister for Information Dr Md Murad Hasan said the March 25 genocide was not just mere a night rather it was the beginning of one of the most heinous genocides of the world civilization.

“According to Australia’s The Sydney Morning Herald, on the night of March 25 alone, nearly one lakh people were killed in Bangladesh, which was one of the worst horrific events in the history of genocide,” he told a discussion organized by the Department of Film and Publication (DFP) on the occasion of Genocide Day at the Information Building in the capital this afternoon.

“The barbaric Pakistani aggressors and their accomplices conducted that heinous crime by killing 30 lakh innocent men, women and children in the next 9 months to wipe out a nation,” he said.

Dr Murad said that the beginning of the army operation, the invading forces arrested the undisputed leader of the Bengali nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from his residence in Dhanmondi.

“Before his arrest, Bangabandhu declared the independence of Bangladesh. Responding to his call, the war of independence was started in the country with common peoples participation… And then, our desired independence was achieved on 16th December 1971,” he said.

Calling on the young generation to spread the history of independence, the state minister said, “The anti-independence clan is equally active like ever, by defeating them, a non-communal developed Bangladesh must be built under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.”

DFP Director General SM Golam Kibria presided over the discussion.

Shaheen Islam, Director General of National Media Institute, Bidhan Chandra Karmakar, Director General of Mass Communication Department, Ahmed Kamruzzaman, Director General of Bangladesh Betar and others spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, the state minister inaugurated an exhibition of films, photographs and supplements.
