Coronavirus: 16,064 infected, 15,555 cured in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 24, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 16,064 people have been infected, and of them, 15,555 cured in all eight districts of Rangpur division since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

Health officials said the infection rate continues rising again in the division where the COVID-19 vaccination campaign continues smoothly since February 7 last.

The number of COVID-19 cases rose to 16, 064 as 19 more patients were reported after testing 7.71 samples at 7.01 percent infection rate on Tuesday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,12,228 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Tuesday, and of them, 16,064 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.31 percent.

“The district-wise break up of total 16,064 patients stands at 4,122 in Rangpur, 796 in Panchagarh, 1,374 in Nilphamari, 970 in Lalmonirhat, 1,029 in Kurigram, 1,525 in Thakurgaon, 4,766 in Dinajpur and 1,482 in Gaibandha,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

At the same time, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 15,555 with the healing of 12 more infected people on Sunday in the division at the average recovery rate of 96.83 percent

The 15,555 recovered patients include 3,982 of Rangpur, 773 of Panchagarh, 1,312 of Nilphamari, 955 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,483 of Thakurgaon, 4,616 of Dinajpur and 1,454 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 212 with no more death reported on Tuesday in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 312 fatalities stands at 73 in Rangpur, 111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 31 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.94 percent in the division.

Among the total 16,064 COVID-19 infected patients, 11 are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,555 patients and 312 deaths while 186 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 96,679 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 93,679 released till Tuesday morning,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu asked everyone to abide by the health directives to check the spread of the COVID-19 infection in the division.
