Voting in SC Bar Polls ends

DHAKA, March 11, 2021 (BSS) – The second day of the two-day polls to elect the new leadership of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for the year 2021-22 ended today with 2,853 voters casting their ballots on the final day.

A total of 5,676 out of the 7,721 voters casted their ballots in this election through 61 polling booths. Voting started at 10am and continued till 5pm with one hour recess in the middle on Wednesday and today.

A total of 51 candidates are contesting for 14 posts in this election. Senior lawyer and former Law Minister Abdul Matin Khasru and Abdul Alim Miah Jewel are vying for the posts of President and General Secretary from the pro-Awami League White Panel.

Md Fazlur Rahman and incumbent General Secretary Ruhul Quddus Kazal are contesting for the posts of President and General Secretary from pro-BNP Blue Panel.

Some other pro-BNP lawyers are also contesting independently, making a panel of their own, with Waliur Rahman Khan and Mirza Al Mahmud vying for president and general secretary respectively.

KM Jabir and Gias Uddin Chowdhury are contesting for the posts of president and general secretary respectively from the Red Panel, while Dr Eunus Ali Akand like the past couple of years is also contesting for the post of president as independent candidate.

A seven-member sub-committee led by Justice AFM Abdur Rahman is conducting the election this year.
