12 more reported COVID-19 positive in Rangpur

RANGPUR, March 8, 2021 (BSS) – Twelve more people were reported corona virus (COVID-19) positive today after testing samples at two COVID-19 laboratories in the division.

Health officials said the 12 new cases were reported after diagnosing 187 samples at the daily infection rate of 6.42 percent today.

The corona virus infection rate marked slight rise during the past three days due to reduction in the number of mask-wearing people in the division where the daily infection rate remained below the five percent mark almost in last one month.

Among the 12 new patients diagnosed today, nine were reported positive after diagnosing 93 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The nine new patients include seven from Rangpur and one each from Nilphamari and Kurigram districts,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu.

On the other hand, three new patients were reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The three new COVID-19 patients include one from Dinajpur and two from Nilphamari districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing testing process tonight.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 15,879 as 12 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of 15,879 patients currently stands at 4,060 in Rangpur, 795 in Panchagarh, 1,341 in Nilphamari, 966 in Lalmonirhat, 1,021 in Kurigram, 1,513 in Thakurgaon, 4,717 in Dinajpur and 1,465 in Gaibandha of the division,” he added.
