Hili Land Port exceeds fixed revenue earning target

RANGPUR, March 5, 2021 (BSS) – The customs authorities at Hili Land Port
(HLP) in Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur have already exceeded the fixed revenue
earning target by about 15 percent during the 2020-2021 financial year that
will end in June next.

“We have collected Taka 220.28 crore till February against the fixed
target of earning Taka 191.79 crore revenue by the National Board of Revenue
(NBR) through HLP during this FY,” Deputy Commissioner of Customs at HLP
Saidul Alam told local reporters.

The collected revenue earning is higher by around 28.50 crore higher than
the fixed target of collecting Taka 191.79 crore revenue though HLP for the
current FY.

Traders Saiful Islam and Rabiul Islam Sweet at HLP said they are enjoying
more facilities at HLP than before in conducting import of goods from India
and unloading those in a hassle-free manner.

Talking to BSS today, President of the Hili Land Port Importers’-
Exporters’ Group Harun Ur Rashid said all the goods being imported now
through HLP are duty-free.

“As a result of which revenue earning has increased during this FY
compared to the previous FY,” said Rashid, also Chairman of local Hakimpur
upazila parishad.

Hili Municipal Mayor and Importer Jamil Hossain Cholonto said Bangladeshi
businesspersons are importing more goods through HLP as it is highly business
friendly now-a-days.

“If the roads connecting HLP with Hili town and other parts of the country
were repaired rapidly, the import-export will increase further through the
land port,” he added.
