Jaishankar opens cultural centre as tribute to Bangladesh’s 50 yrs of independence

DHAKA, March 4, 2021 (BSS) – Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar today inaugurated new Indian cultural centre here as tribute to 50 years of Bangladesh’s Great War of Liberation.

“Our (Bangladesh and India) shared cultural heritage is strength of our partnership,” he said while inaugurating the second Indian cultural center at India house here.

He said with this new centre, Dhaka now became one of the few cities in the world that hosts more than one Indian cultural centre.

The external minister said cultural domain is the primary driver of people to people element to our partnership while Bangladesh’s culture and war of liberation is linked.

“It is appropriate that we opened the cultural center on the month of independence and a few days back of International Mother Language Day,” he said.

He highlighted the importance of culture in the daily life and shared cultural heritage between the two countries.

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami was also present.

Jaishankar arrived here this morning for a daylong trip to set agenda of the Indian premier’s planned upcoming visit on March 26-27.
