DHAKA, March 3, 2021 (BSS) – Journalist Shaheen Reza Nur, son of Shaheed journalist Sirajuddin Hossain, was laid to eternal rest at Mirpur Intellectuals graveyard in the city today.
Prior to the burial, people from all walks of life paid glowing tributes to him there.
Shaheen, the founder and former president of Projonmo Ekattor, died of cancer at Vancouver General Hospital in Canada on February 13 at the age of 67.
Earlier, his body was brought to the central Shaheed Minar premises around 11 am today where several ministers, politicians, writers, poets and cultural personalities and common people paid homage to him by placing wreaths to his coffin.
After arrival his body in the early morning, Nur’s body was first taken to his ancestral home on Asad Avenue in Mohammadpur from the airport.
Later, it was taken to the central Shaheed Minar after holding the first namaz-e-janaza.
His second namaz-e-janaza was held at the premises of Central Jame Mosque of Dhaka University (DU) at around 12.45 pm.
Later, he was buried at Mirpur following the third namaz-e-janaza.
Foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and Awami League joint general secretary Mahabubul Alam Hanif, MP, paid tributes to Shaheen at the central Shaheed Minar.
Besides, Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee president Shahriar Kabir, DU alumni association president AK Azad and its general secretary Ranjan Karmakar, Sommilito Sangskritik Jote President Golam Quddus, renowned folk and pop singer Fakir Alamgir, Rabindra Sangeet singer Mukbul Hossain, Poet Shahana Akter Mahua, co-general secretary of Udichi Shilpigosthi Sangeeta Imam and on behalf of Projonmo Ekattor, Asif Munir Tonmoy Zahid Nur, Gaurav Ekattor general secretary FM Shaheen, Amra Muktijoddhar Sontan Central Committee president Sajjad Hossain and its general secretary Rasheduzzaman Shaheen, paid tributes, among others, to him.
Various socio-cultural organizations including Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASAD), Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB), Kendriya Khelaghar, Bangladesh Abritti Shilpi Sangsad and Ramon Publishers also paid tributes to the noted journalist by placing floral wreaths.
Shaheen Reza Noor was born on 21 September in 1954 in Sharshuna village of Magura.
In November of 1983, Shaheen joined the daily Ittefaq as an apprentice sub-editor. Later, he served in various positions in the Bengali newspaper for a long time.
He was involved with many organizations including Bangladesh-India Friendship Association, Muktijoddha Sanghati Parishad, and Sector Commanders Forum.
