JS body recommends for developing aus variety to curtail rice import dependency

DHAKA, Feb 25, 2021 (BSS) – The Parliamentary standing committee on the agriculture ministry today recommended for taking necessary steps to develop research and production of different aus varieties so that the country can reduce the rice import dependency.

The recommendation was placed at the 15th meeting of the parliamentary committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here with its chairman Matia Chowdhury in the chair.

The committee also recommended to the concerned ministry to take necessary action for getting accurate information on agriculture production and stock from the field level.

Committee members Agriculture Minister Dr M Abdur Razzaque, Muhammad Imaj uddin Pramanik, M Moslem Uddin, M Mamunur Rashid Kiron, Anwarul Abedin Khan, Umme Kulshum Sriti and Hosne Ara, among others, attended the meeting.

The parliamentary body in its recommendation urged the agriculture ministry to include the local lawmaker and the concerned upazila chairman in any agriculture related programme.
