Bangabandhu liberated nation from shackles of subjugation: Rezaul

DHAKA, Feb 9, 2021 (BSS) – Terming Bangabandhu as the great leader of all the victories of the Bangalees, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim today said the country’s founding father had liberated the nation from the shackles of subjugation.

“Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had united the whole nation in a well-planned manner, starting from the Language Movement to the country’s Independence Movement. In this way, he liberated the Bangalee nation from the shackles of subjugation in a democratic way,” he told a virtual seminar from his official residence here.

The United Kingdom unit of Awami League arranged the virtual seminar titled ‘Language and Self-Governance’, a ministry press release said.

Speaking as the chief guest, Rezaul said although the age of Bangla language is over 1,000 years, Bangabandhu established the Bangalee nationalism in line of the spirit of nationalism of Bangla-speaking people.

“Under the leadership of Bangabandhu, Chhatra League was established in 1948 and he emerged as one of the organisers of the Language Movement assuming the main power of Awami league formed in 1949,” he said.

The fisheries minister said the Father of the Nation encouraged and organised the country’s people in the spirit of Bangalee nationalism.

Recalling Bangabandhu’s contribution to country’s all democratic movements, he said the Bangalee nation won in the 1970 general election and achieved independence in 1971 under his leadership.

UK AL President Sultan Mahmud Sharif and its general secretary Syed Sajedur Rahman Faruq, among others, spoke at the seminar.
