RANGPUR, Feb 2, 2021 (BSS) – The weather marked little improvement following rise in temperatures as the sun appeared at most places in the northern districts since this morning bringing some relief and easiness to common people.
Local people said the weather deteriorated sharply in recent days causing bone-chilling cold following reduction of the gap between maximum and minimum temperatures to the minimum when minimum temperatures ranged between 5.5 and 9 degrees Celsius.
However, things started becoming normal this morning when the stronger sun came out penetrating the thick blankets of fog from 9 am in most places of the sub- Himalayan northern districts.
The vehicular movements on roads and highways and activities in business centres, markets, hats and bazaars, river ports and ferry ghats, bus stands and terminals and rail stations gained momentum since the morning today.
The Met Office recorded the minimum temperature of 9 degrees Celsius at 6 am today against yesterday’s minimum of 7 degrees Celsius at Rangpur monitoring point.
The today’s minimum temperatures were 8.4 degrees Celsius against yesterday’s 7 degrees at Dinajpur, 9 degrees against yesterday’s 6 degrees at Syedpur in Nilphamari, 9 degrees against yesterday’s 7 degrees Celsius at Dimla in Nilphamari.
Besides, today’s minimum temperatures were 6.7 degrees Celsius against yesterday’s 7.7 degrees at Tentulia in Panchagarh and 7 degrees against yesterday’s 7.2 degrees Celsius at Rajarhat in Kurigram in the region.
On the other hand, the maximum temperatures marked rise by five to seven degrees Celsius and ranged between 22 degrees and 25.2 degrees Celsius at 4 pm on Monday in the northern region.
Following improvement of the situation, common people and farm- and day- labourers started normal activities everywhere including remote char areas and Boro rice seedling plantation got momentum today.
The district administrations, NGOs, voluntary, socio-cultural and political organisations, trade bodies, different banks and affluent people are continuing distribution of warm clothes among cold-hit people.
Divisional Commissioner Abdul Wahhab Bhuiyan said over four lakh pieces of blankets in addition to other warm clothes have already been distributed among cold-hit people in Rangpur division where the process continues.
Talking to BSS, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension at its Rangpur regional office Agriculturalist Md. Moniruzzaman said growing winter crops and Boro seedbed would not be affected if the weather continues improving onwards.
Senior Coordinator (Agriculture and Environment) of RDRS Bangladesh Agriculturalist Mamunur Rashid said the trend of climatic nature has become almost unpredictable as a result of the adverse impacts of climate change.
“Due to the behaviuoral change in the weather pattern, temperatures are marking falls in the morning and rise again in the afternoon almost daily. And so why growths of crop plants are not being affected in the northern region,” Rashid added.
Reports reaching here from rural and riverine char areas said sufferings of common people in Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Rangpur, Nilphamari, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon and Panchagarh districts also eased today.
